Berlin is a dark place in the winter. And while it may not get as cold as some cities, the sky punishes like nowhere else: low and thick, with little relent. In defiance of its swampy bleakness this recent winter, I rode out to the Famous Gold Watch, a studio refuge in the bunker of a decommissioned DDR facility on the outskirts of the ring, to lay down a few tracks and keep the energy moving.
These song were recorded in a single day, performed live, with sax overdubs in the wee hours come the day's end. Piano and organ overdubs were laid down by engineer and sonic genius Cameron James Laing a week or so later.
Rather than a polished album, the Reconcile Demo is exactly that: a demo. All tracks are first or second takes. It's raw, but there's vibe here.
It got me through the winter.
Thanks for listening.
